    M60B40 Timing

If you have your M60B40 out on the stand and just finished timing, can you post some pics of the relative position of the camshaft lobes/intake sprockets?

I just did mine and want to compare, specifically the position of the cam position sensor trigger vs. the crank missing tooth location.

    Thanks!

This is what used to time my motor, while using one timing tool on each head one at a time just make sure when your dine to give the motor a couple rotations to make sure no valves contact

Go through it to the m60 cam install/removal and you should see that loves should be close to where they should be.

Lobes look right. I'll pull my covers and post a pic.
Remember the tail end of the cam will tell you if it's correct.
Mine also looked f-ed up for some reason, But I'm also running a b44
and the cams are different. Note Your cam sprocket trigger point should be before the cam sensor at TDC...

I've rotated it a few times and pretty sure cams are set correctly, the sprocket arrows point up, the cylinder 1 lobes point towards each other just like the manual says. I can rotate it, and then lock the cams again with the tools, each cam has the lettering at the end facing UP.

It's the relationship of the cam position sensor sprocket vs. the crank wheel that I am worried about.

If it's timed properly and you turn it a few times over, should the crank wheel show as it does for me WHEN the point for the CPS is shown through the opening on the upper timing cover?

Jean, no mine doesn't line up like that and that makes me worry. I did the m62 to m60 harness conversion and the instruction was given on cam trigger placement was vage at best.
Your pictures look to make sense to me as far as cam triggers and the crank shows a count gap. I would imagine it would be some what the same for the obd1 24v swap guys. Right????
So I'll be hitting the yard this weekend looking for an m60 to check cam trigger location vs. Crank
Unless you find out first then i'll go off of your marks..

Thanks, I believe it should be the same for M62 as well, but there is an additional variable sine you are modifying the trigger wheel and added Crank sensor mount vs. what's already in place for B40.

So went to the yard and did not find an m60 but i did find a m50 non vanos obd1 and removed the valve cover and spun the motor to align the crank trigger with the sensor, and the crank lined up the same as yours. Now knowing that there is very little different between the 6 and the 8 for the obd1 setup. I would say yours is correct.
