    Gathering M60B40 Swap parts

    Hello,

So after a couple of year of owning my '86 E30 316 Alpine euro I'm about to swap a m60 in it.
Right now I'm gathering parts for the swap, so far I got:
-M60b40 engine (included manifolds and harness)
    -Motormounts out of Germany
    -E36 M3 radiator
    -Wilwood Brake Assembly
    -E36 Steeringhousing

So still on my list to get the whole drivetrain in and running is:
    -5-Speed gearbox
    -M5 flywheel
    -E36 clutch
    -e36 328i driveshaft
    -Custom exhaust
-Motormounts (rubbers) i'm not sure which one to go with.

As you can see im going for a '86 E30 with M60B40 5-speed and a boosterless swap.

Are there any parts I forgot or are recommended to change?

First thing I would do is purchase Frank's swap guide!! Best money I have invested in this whole project. Explains a lot of the issues and possible fixes and there are a lot more out there. Check out Garagistic's website as well. I got a lot of help from them also. I ordered their pedal mount, motor mounts and a few other bits to help get this rolling. Now I just need to finish the rebuild!!
As for the motor mounts, I went with the diesel mounts myself and they seem like they will be the best fit for my car. If your driveshaft is a large guibo then you shouldn't need to replace it using the 5-speed unless you want to spend the extra money. Have fun and keep plugging away. It's been 2+ years so far for me!!

      Thnx for your reaction.

Right now im gathering a lot of parts still, hoping to start my actual build around March/April.
Guide from Frank was probally my first purchase, really love it and its well documentated.

As for parts, i'm not really a fan of ordering from the states because of the tax and shipping cost. So i'm ordering a lot of parts in Holland, Germany or the UK.

Does the guide not provide a full parts list? Im also interested in this swap after deciding to stay away from boost, can anyone chime in if its better to purchase a donor car or if i can find a m60b40 w/harness and transmission for say 1000$ or less. Im thinking a donor car will be more cost efficient. Also can you use the e34/e39 diff on the e30?

Guide has the parts list, yes. Some diffs will work, some won't. You need a medium case (I6-powered E39, e34) to fit in the E30 case. The E34+E39 cases will not bolt up.

^^^14"BBS...If you can get a running donor car, that would be the best way to go! This should be able to give you a better history of the car and engine. I found my M60 in a parts yard here and bought it complete with the automatic transmission out of the 740iL for less than $500. Sold the transmission for $300 so the engine essentially cost me $200! Now the tear down and rebuild is a whole other story!!
Why not just use the e30 diff? Is something wrong with the one you have? I am using the stock 2.93S in my '87 as it is one of the recommended for this swap so there is no real reason to swap it. The e30 rear diff can take a lot more abuse than most people know.
