    e30 ls1 swap - e36 cx racing headers

I have been driving my ls1 swapped car for about 5000 miles now and I would like to change my steering rack to the e36 and get better clearance for the steering shaft on the headers.

I'm using garret's kit with the sanderson headers, I was thinking, if the e36 subframe is similar to the e30 (almost identntical), and by using the cx racing headers, we have mid-leght / long tubes for about 450 dollars + much better fitment of exhaust piping, no weird angle next to oil pan.

Do you think it will work ?

You might be onto something.... On paper I think they would fit. It really depends on the steering shaft and how close the frame rail is.

It looks like the shaft goes through the headers.... This could totally work.

I don't think it will fit as the E30 has a front sump and the sway bar would probably be in the way of the headers.

I noticed from cx racing website that the t56 location on the e36 lines up with the lollipops on the control arms, I'm going to go home and look at mine and see how far forward the t56 comes. There might be some interference with the sway bar, I'm trying to get some mesurements from cx racing.

Yes, you will have some clearance issues with the E30 front stabilizer bar and those headers.

Did you try putting the engine in with the sanderson headers? will it clear the steering shaft? or do i still have to change the steering shaft?

I'm happy with my 100% fitting sikky headers. But I am interested if this does or does not fit. Mixing matching parts is such a crap shoot.
