Smoother shifting transmission than the T56?

Is there a smoother shifting transmission than the T56 that will bolt on without too much work on the LS1?

There are adapterkits for transmissions from other makes (BMW, Nissan etc.) but they cost a lot so would like to look at other alternatives first.

    Thanks!

I've seen a T5 adapted to fit, but they aren't very strong so I'd probably avoid that. Shifter choice makes a big difference on how the T56 shifts. I have a factory Camaro SS Hurst in my S10 and it's very smooth compared to the MGW one in my e30, albeit not as precise.

Not sure how smoothly they shift, but there are TKO 5 speeds and the ZF 6 speed used in the C4 Corvettes. The TKO is about 30 lbs lighter than the T56, the ZF abut 30 lbs heavier.

Thanks for the input - seems like I will have to go for one of the adapterkits then.

The Nissan cd009 transmission is a dream to shift.

What he said. The newer versions are pretty robust.

I use a T56. Meh. I got used to it. My only issue is that I'm super freaked to put it into reverse instead of 5th. I don't have the factory electronic lockout.

                  Status: HG repair. 488wtq though!

                    t56 FTW!!!
Just need the right shifter and get one that doesn't have a million miles on.
I have a super clunky Pro 5.0, anyone knows one that is better suited for road racing that is not super bulky (aka fits e30) ?
