Awesome! (having a cyber party now) i have messaged Wokke about there chips to see if that would "install" a limiter, as it would be nice to upgrade power and fix problems!

Yep, that's the 404 ecu. Should be as easy as swapping out a stock 404 ecu.

so tonight i managed to get ahold of the previous owner, whos going to try and find the guy tho put the engine in, he confirmed, it never had a limiter, but it must of one day! hopefully the installer will know more, but what info I do know right now is the " bigger" more easy to read numbers on the ECU as its tucked up behind the wheel

the big black "Bosch" label had the following number 0261200 404
so is that the "404" number I'm looking for?

also could read these number, could mean ... all though so ignore if they do

I think it comes down to Manufacture date. I know the 95 540i I purchased to pull the engine for my swap from had a 484 so I had to buy a different one. Unless Canadian cars are different?

Most likely though you will have a 404 DME as most people dont go through the trouble of sourcing everything needed to make the EWS work.
    I just pulled a harness and DME from a 95 6spd 540i and it had a 404 in it.

Sorry I don't know an awful lot about the m60 system, I know the m62 needed the key in my e39 donor but then I'm going stand alone so didn't read much Into it.

The M60B40 is likely fired by the 404 DME yeah? If so, he shouldn't have to deal with the EWS immobiliser as far as I know.

Awesome, im trying to work my way back through people to find out who did what, but it's not easy, I've seen that with the wokke chip they can adjust the limiter so wasn't sure if that would install one if it's been removed.

I'll try giving them a message! Thank you!

So I'm after a little help, it wasn't me who put the engine in, but in the process of this whoever did the swap has removed the Rev limiter, so it's a matter or time before the engine blows it's self to peices, so I need to get the limiter working again, how are the limiters 'activated' on these engines? Is it in the ecu? Any help really will be appreciated and I'll give what back I can to you guys

    Hi Charlie, I'm from N.Ireland.

Get on to demon tweeks and install and aftermarket rev limiter.

It sounds like someone has mapped or messed about with your ecu. Replace the ECU with a standard item from eBay. Shouldn't be too expensive although you might need to replace the ignition system as well as the key is linked to the immobiliser as far as I am aware.

There is Alot more local know how on driftworks forum. Or give the guys at 'team sunset drift' a shout. You'll get them in Facebook or google.

    Hope that helps.
