fault code 210 CAN interface gearbox intervention version DME

As stated in the title I have been researching code 210 and how to make it go away. I have come up with nothing. 210 CAN interface gearbox intervention version DME. I am running a 404 DME with a DUDMD chip. I realize that my DME is from an auto car, but I was informed in multiple forums that if you changed to a manual chip it wouldn't matter. Also I am using a auto harness if that matters.
Anyone have any insight on this?

I think we have answered this question before here

To answer your question and follow up to my post error code 210 CAN-bus

Does CANBUS code affect performance ? I don’t know
My main goal was for Calif. Certification. No codes can be present. ie CEL, CANBUS, whatever - when referee scans DME.
I’ve only had pop/crack on decel . off throttle rpm >2300-2000. Little if any hesitation on accel . steady idle at 650 + with various DME’s
Eng/ harness from 94 540 AUTO Bosch ‘404’ auto DME.

    1. Removed majority of auto wiring from harness.
Got car on the road and had pop/crack, hanging rpm to idle as mentioned
    CANBUS ERROR CODE.
Temporarily rewired AUTO control module to harness ( 5 or 6 wires) NO CANBUS CODE still had decel /idle issues . plus ya want that thing in your car ??

    2. Purch/installed 540 MANUAL chip from DUDMD for ‘404’ DME to hopefully eliminate code. little if any change on rpm/idle
Still had CANBUS ERROR CODE. Seems AUTO harness /DME may be different than MANUAL DME ?

    3. Purch DME from ’95 540 manual- 6spd Bosch ‘484’ manual DME but HAS EWS.
Sent up to DUDMD . Installed EWS emulator.
    RESULTS: NO CANBUS CODE
NO hanging idle almost no pop/crack on decel. Best drivability smooth power etc.
    Passed Calif BAR YES !!
PROBLEM: ‘484’ W/ EMULATOR has FAILED 2x’s now . Approx 500 miles and EWS reappears . Just died 2x yesterday.

    FIX 1:
Talked with DUDMD ,who has been helpful and prompt, sent DME back to him. He said emulator EWS number code/pairing? had changed somehow. He reset and returned. worked as before – until yesterday.. after 1st failure I put spare 404 DME in trunk .
    FIX 2:
I will call DUDMD next week see what’s what.

I don’t think the original EWS emulator was replaced- just reset-
I needed a quick turnaround on first failure due to my BAR appointment sched.
So could be junk DME or Emulator . . I may put together a 2nd setup for comparison longevity etc.

Again this setup , manual ‘484’ / emulator gave noticeably better drivability performance for me.

2-10-16 UPDATE sent my 484 DME w/ emulator combo that failed for 2nd time in mid November 2015, back up to DUDMD for him to take a look at /reset/fix etc. . I’ve not heard anything from him. Package was signed for when received. I’ve called a few times leaving voice message each time and no reply or response. Same phn number that is on his f’bk page. His page shows new dyno so there must be some activity.
So WTF -- WHERE IS MY DME DIMITRI/DUDMD
    My CA legal M60 swap

    The happening in our garage

Thanks 36brau that was informative. I wonder if anyone has found a way to eliminate ews from the 484 dme without an emulator. I do think the 210 code affects performance. I've reset my dme and restarted my car. it will idle for 4 minutes awesome, then you hear the idle change/ lower and cel comes on. only code 210. my car also exhibits the same backfiring you described. If when engine braking I blip the throttle even the slightest I get a loud crack. What kind of mpg are you getting with the 484/emulator? we have the same gearing 5spd ZF with a 3.15 diff. I'm only getting 16mpg, but then again at 70 mph I run 3400RPM.
