M60 5 Speed shift linkage help.

    Hey guys,

Trying to sift through a bunch of M60 builds that utilize the 5speed transmission.

I'm to the point where the engine is in and when I went to put the shift linkage together this is what I run into.

It is about 1" shoft, and I do not know if there is another carrier that is longer, or if I should just cut this one and try and get someone to weld, or just get a E36 carrier.

Is it true the E36 carrier is longer by that inch?? Can't seem to find any definitive measurements.

    E30

    E36

    Thanks for looking guys!

I used a e30 originally but changed it to a E36. This all depends on how you position your engine. All the way to the front, middle or all the way to against the fire wall.

sorry I should have included that!

It is as far back to the firewall as possible with the garagistic hardware.

On the five speed set up you need to extend it. I cut mines up and used brackets to extend it to the length I needed. Because I couldn't find a local welder to weld the aluminum.

cut 'n weld my boy. cut 'n weld. that way it can be perfect.

use two carriers to make one the right length.

so extend both the selector rod AND the carrier or just the carrier itself?

Can I see the pics of the carrier that you extended without the welding?

PS. This unit is aluminum if a magnet does not stick to er right?

              TIA
