    740i oil filter bracket

i had posted a reference to this in herpdederp's thread and have gotten a few pm's for photos. i figured the easiest way for members to search for this in the future would be to post a separate thread.

    here are the pics.

this one is the side that mounts to the body.

    filter mount side

    one more for good measure

i found this part in a local junk yard. i don't remember which year it came from but the model was a 740i. well, now that i think about it, there is a very slim chance it came from a 540i? perhaps one of you can research it on realoem and come up with a part number?

also, i see no reason the oil filter housing needs to be mounted in the vertical position. my car will have a/c when i am finished as well as abs brakes. i am thinking about mounting it horizontally under the inner fender on the driver's side. this position will make it easier to drain used oil from it anyway.

would it be any worse than changing the oil on an m20? if you can get a pan under it before the lid comes off, i would think it would just drain into that.

Yeah, shouldn't be an issue. I am looking at it and if you tilt the housing straight up, then you are adding extra stress/kink on the oil lines right above the frame rail :/
