mystery noise (diff?) pitch increases w/ speed

Recently (~1k miles) I've noticed a sound that starts as a low whoosh—you can hear individual rotations (almost like a chug) starting at about 5 mph—that increases in pitch linearly with speed. It's quite loud, and it's slowly getting worse. It sounds similar to, but not exactly the same as, the noise that used to come from my differential, before I replaced it, about 20k miles ago, with a rebuilt unit from Chris aka "agent" in Tennessee. I initially thought it couldn't be the differential because it's so 'new'—not even within the window for changing the fluid. But is there anything else it could be? The sound changes a bit when you go off the gas at high speed—it gets a little louder. I've made a recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_-ZyN8kJOI">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_-ZyN8kJOI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350">, tried to capture it—at 17 seconds, 20 seconds, etc I lay off the gas and you can hear the sound change a bit. This is at about 65-75 mph.

    Any suggestions?
