discovered that my passenger side mirror motor only works in the left/right direction. up/down results in the motor sound but no movement. driver side works just fine.
looked at the ETM and figured out how it works. then pulled the mirrors and took them to my workbench. with the mirrors out and the motors hooked to a 12v battery, i can see what the problem is. the motor gear isn't making solid contact with the toothed piece. there is a metal spring that looks like it has given up and can't put enough pressure on the toothed piece to engage the gear.

driver's side for comparison. motor works great however more surface corrosion but the spring is beefier.

new motors appear to be available but are $125. sheesh.
anyone ever dealt with this before and have a good fix besides buying a new motor? i'm looking for a used mirror to scavenge parts from but no guarantee that motor won't be as tired.
