    stomp code reset ?

so my stomp code is ok....shows 1444
    oil and water are fine
but inspection light wont go off after doing the reset
car runs great, mpg is great ( mid to high 20's in town, 29 hiway)

could this be the cluster battery

The inspection light should go out if you reset the service indicator and leave the ignition on for about 9 seconds. If your lights did not all go green then you probably need to change the SI batteries or get a whole new board. They make ones that are battery free now so never a problem again! The only time the stomp codes tell you anything is when the red check engine light stays on.

The Inspection (SI) light has nothing to do with the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light AKA Check Engine)

The SI needs to be reset with a tool, some will tell you to ground the #7 pin in the OBD connector to reset it but that just isn't a good idea.

EDIT: Yes as the following post by jlevie states it is the SI batteries (typical of me to leave out the most important part)

A classic symptom of bad SI board batteries is not being able to reset the service indicators. Unless your reset tool is faulty, that sounds like what's going on in this case.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Why isn't it a good idea. I have done this on several occasions and as long as it is done according to the proper directions (connecting the two proper pins) it is fine. In actuality it is doing the same thing the tool does!

All the reset tool is is a circuit with a resister which shorts pin seven to the ground pin in the diagnostic plug, you won't hurt anything if you use a wire with some sort of resistor say 50 ohms or something It"s just there so that a huge current spike doesn't fry the circuitry on the SI board IMHO those tools are a huge waste of money what are they like $50?

It has a timer circuit and a diode as well.

re tryed it, beofrs eeing answers and all is good now, however I did not do it with a resistor, whish I had read that first
                oh well next time
