HVAC Slider Removal

Has anyone had any luck removing and replacing the HVAC slider seen in the picture below as a white board with metal glued to it? It is wedged in there pretty tight, and I don't want to damage it. Mine has a burnt mark on it that I am afraid with effect the performance.

I managed to pry and remove it from the top. Any comments if you think this is salvageable or whether it should be replaced?
