Can an AFM blow up?? Here's whats up

I had to change the engine harness on my 90 325i and when I turned the key there was a pop from somewhere. I don't know where. It cranked and didn't start. I tried all kind of things. Have spark and fuel the only thing missing is air. I pulled the intake boot off the TB and it fired. I have a M30 027 AFM on there. So I put on a stock air box and AFM and it fires up with effort. When I unplugged the AFM the connector was wet. My plugs keep fouling up. I gave up after cleaning the plugs 3 times.

I think the pop might have been the AFM or maybe the wiring. Any ideas??

With a backfire it can bend the barn door in the AFM, check that it moves freely thru full travel. Sounds like it is stuck in an open position and flooding.

I haven't but it worked fine the last time my engine ran a couple months ago and it has not back fired. I will check for that though.
