groaning/whining noise from steering when i cut the wheel

i know it has something to do with my powersteering, its pretty noisy when i cut the wheel, kinda gets louder as the wheel gets turned further. what do i do about this. also the steering wheel has alot of play. when i turn the car off, and the wheel is locked, i can still move it about an eighth or quarter of an inch.

check the fluid first, maybe low? check the lines for leaks, if the hoses are wet, replace the hoses, check the rack for leaks, if its leaky replace it (i have one for sale) check the pump, if it's failed, replace it, there isnt anything else really. good luck

heres something else to consider, i love it when i go out to my car in the morning, and the steering is really tight for about a minute, before it gets pretty loose. i dont know if that has something to do with the cold weather and my car sitting for about 12 hrs or what. but during that minute it really doesnt make any noise, and feels really nice and tight like i got a whole new steering system. but after that it feels and sounds like its gone to shit.

yeah, check your fluid. Happens sometimes when I turn really fast at slow speeds.

check the ps fuild level, if its low fill it. could just be air in the pipes......or your ps pump is getting close to the end of it's life.
