    problems starting-up the car

I have an 85 325e. It wouldn't start so i figured the battery was dead. I jump started it and it worked fine. I didnt use the car a few days and went to start it and then battery was dead again. Once again i jump started it and it worked. I let the car idle for few minutes then it stalled. Tried to start it up again and nothing.

The battery is abouth a month old. Do i need a new alternator?

My friend's car did the same thing. We replaced the alternator, worked fine for a while, started acting up again.

Replaced the battery (with an Optima Red Top, of course ;) ;)) and no problems since.

You can find the drain by hooking an ammeter to the battery and pulling fuses until the drain stops. Then check each item on that fuse. The owner's manual and the Bentley manual have a fuse chart.
A common cause of battery drain is the trunk light staying on.
If you have less than 30 mA drain, check the alternator.
