My fix for erratic temp gauge.

I just wanted to share my experience with everyone. My car was overheating and I could not find the fix. The gauge was very erratic moving up and down alot but in small temperature ranges. Basically it would move slowly all the way up to the red zone all the while bouncing a bit so I thought it was weird but it showed the normal heat up and cool down of the car. I could not find the fix for a little while but I took apart the cluster and found a loose resistor (I think thats what it was). Not thinking it was the problem I decided to fix it anyway and put it back in the car and no more "overheating". So all my troubles were fixed in 15 min. Hope this helps someone.

Where was the resistor located, on the actual guage, or the board? Reason being, I have a similar problem with my fuel guage....

Back from the dead. What did the fix involve? A lot of soldering or just wiggling the resistor back in place? Also would like to know generally where it's located if anybody knows.

Mine just started acting up today but I thought it might be due to the rain or something.

search the forum, this has been covered a few times. I think it may even be in the FAQ...? Maybe.

I had the same problem a while back and even changed my water pump and thermostat before I realised it was the gauge. At least you are ahead of me!
