E30 325is sunroof issue

Hello,
I can open the sunroof with the tool. However, if I try to use the electric motor it runs e endlessly in both directions but if I look at the nut with the hex in the middle that the tool fits in for manual operation it binds right away. I guess the motor runs inside but is not able to turn the assembly.
I think the gears are stripped inside the motor. But it does open with the hex tool without an issue?

Any idea and advice are appreciated!

If you can operate the sunroof manually then the cables are good. My guess is the gears are stripped in the motor. Time to replace the motor.
