I just got owned

So i just recently bought a 1988 325ix. Bought it off a buddy of mines uncle. From what i was told the car was in amazing shape and completely rebuilt motor, blah blah. Come to find out a good deal of what i was told was bullshit. Anyway i was driving down the road and i started to hear this sort of whining noise, so i was planning to check it out when i got home. I get stopped by a light and when i try to go my car doesn't move and its making this terrible grinding noise. I'm thinking its the rear diff. Anyone have any other ideas as to what it could be. Any help would be great, because im hoping to get it figured out and go buy any parts i need today so i can fix it by monday.

Is your car an automatic? You may need to check tranny fluid! Autos do not like running low on fluid and it is probably rebuild time. Hope you got the car for a good price!
