    318i to 318is swap

    Hey guys, got some questions.

I read alot of the posts, and they talk about the M50/S50 swaps. What if I wanted to swap in a motor from a 318is?

What do I need? Will my tranny/diff be okay for it? I know I'd need engine/exhaust/CPU/harness, but what else?

    Thanx

m10 to m42? i think the motor mounts might be a bastard, from what i have heard. might have to look into that one.

i'd say it'd be a good, cheap upgrade. cant find an m20 or m50 for as cheap as an m42, which would run pretty good in a light ass 318i

yeah, i think it could be a killer track setup. id love an m42 '02, but apparently it is a bitch of a swap. thats why i was concerned about the motor mounts.

Motor mounts have to be fabricated to put the 16v in the 2002, but they should drop right on the subframe mounts of an early 318 (84 85)

I'd love to find the realistic weight of a bare-bones 83-84 316.

would the driveshaft need to be different, too?

what about stuff like the radiator, a/c compressor, alternator, etc?

                  any help would be appreciated.

I agree with you 80% of the time, but desert heat can really suck.

Hey, Street, you are full of it. Try living in Louisiana, where the temp and humidity race to 100 deg. every day in the summer, usually with the humidity winning.

Try doing w/out a/c in that climate. Trust me, I need a/c.
