    What is this part called?

I'm wondering the official name for the horizontal SILVER bar in this picture...

    [Thanks Jordan for the pic]

Yeah I think that is right, because the White Bushing is called the "shift carrier bushing" :-p

The correct name is Shifting Arm. It is part number 25-11-1-220-606. This is directly from BMW's Electronic Parts catalogue (ETK).

All I know is that they are easy to break and a bitch to replace. I rigged mine for 3
          months until replacing

Ya, I broke one myself, and a friend did it in his 325is too.

            Thanks guys.

Oh, almost forgot, when doing a z3 or z4 SSK, is this part something that gets replaced or does it stay?

Is that part number above for 91's?

It is not a normally replaced part when rebuilding the linkage - no need - not a wear part.

                Part number for a 91 325i is 25-11-1-221-201

Thanks. Ya, it broke the first day I had the car, I replaced it but the one I used is from an 87 I think and they must be different or something ebcause the car is not easy to shift now, 2nd is the hardest to get in to. If I replace it with the correct part, I'll be good as new.

If you give me the last 7 digits of your VIN, I can give you the exact part number for your car..... or, the exact model (ie 325is Automatic) and the production month and year (Ie - my 1989 is actually 11/88 production).

                      If you need it....

For some reason, the Bentley manual calls it a shifter console. Most everyone else (like UUC) call it the shifter carrier. Early E30's have different design...they are wider and made of sheet metal instead of aluminum.
Check the photo of the sheet metal carrier in this thread:
