    Speedometer problems pissing me off

This is really starting to get on my nerves. Randomly, my speedometer will die. It will do it right away sometimes, after driving a bit others. It used to be that if I hit the dash it would wake up, but even this has been working less and less. Once in a while, heavy acceleration will wake it up, but it think this is just from the jerk of the car. All the other gauges work fine; the only other problem which may or may not be related is the dashboard and OBC lights will go out randomly as well.

Once in a while when I hit the dash the OBC chime will ding an it will revert back to the temperature rather than the time.

This happened to me a while back, but it went away when I pulled the cluster for something. This just started again with my most recent pulling of the cluster.

Any ideas what it could be?

If you find out before I do where it is losing power to that particular gauge in the cluster id like to know. May be the same point where mine is wonky too. It used to be pretty good, now it's rare that i have a speedo at all. Same symptoms, used to be able to knock the cluster a little. Speedo dies, and because of that the econometer doesnt work, no cruise control, and no trip/odo.

Very similar problem here. My speedo and obc light went out at about the same time.

replaced the light, speedo still no work.

checked speed sensor in diff, and it was bad when tested.

      replaced it, still no speedo

once in a while the speedo will jump up to 90-110 mph while driving slow or even sitting still!!! crazy

I thought the obc light and speedo going out was just a coincidence, but after hearing your stories i think they might be related.

I have a small case of this problem as well. Usually some(if not all) of the gauges will be out on start-up. Hitting the dash usually wakes it up, its kinda funny really. But I am thinking if these problems become more of an issue then I mine as well just replace the cluster, with a working odo too and possibly LED backlight'n

Possible Conductor plate failure (Mother board), coding plug, SI board or just bad connections to or in the cluster.

Glad to see this isn't just my car being weird.

It's little things like this that get me angry. I actually think i would mind it less if it didn't work at all.

How would I go about fixing any of these things?

Crack it open and attempt to resolder?

There is also a fuse that controls all of that. The fuse in my car looked to be original and replacing it has fixed the speedo and all of the weird interior light issues I had. Must have just had a bad connection or something. still gotta do the SI board, though, because the tach keeps jumping around....

All my fuses are good. I'm almost positive it is something in the cluster because hitting it will make it work again.

I've got the same issue with my temp gauge. It'll just start waving around until I hit it enough times for it to calm down and go to where it's supposed to be. My speedo also reads about 20mph high but I'm pretty sure thats not related. It all started after I rewired my sound system so I wanna say that something just got unplugged or broken but I can't figure it out yet.

Hope you find out whats wrong with urs.
