    Alternator acting up

Why doesn't my alternator work unless I rev the engine to 4K RPM first. It will work the rest of the drive I just have to rev it first. Am I stuck getting a new alternator or is it something smaller.

It could be just worn brushes. They, or the the regulator assembly, are a replaceable item. But before doing that, remove the belt and assess the condition of the bearings. If noisy or gritty, replace the alternator with a factory reman unit.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah I guess I'll just replace the alternator, it looks some what new though. Thought maybe it would be some electronics on the back side because technically the alternator works.
