    Running Rich.

Ok, I'm running out of ideas here. My car is running rich as hell. There's a nice big black spot of soot on my parking lot wall from my exhaust, and anytime I flog my car in first or second I fumigate the poor bastard behind me. That and my fuel economy blows and that's breaking the bank. I also have a funky idle, where it's usually smooth, but every "fourth beat" is rumpy.

I've swapped with a known good AFM, that didn't help any. Same with ICV. I've replaced just about all the vacuum hoses, that helped a bit. Last time I pulled my spark plugs out, they were covered in black soot, cleaned them out and that helped some. All injector O-rings have been changed, as well as my intake manifold gasket. All of this has helped the problem little by little, but it's still running a tad weird. I think my exhaust manifold gasket needs changing because I can literally hear it leaking, but would that lead to these symptoms?

Also, I don't know if it's related or not, but my throttle response is horribly slow. At first I thought it was slack in the cable, but I adjusted that and it's not that. It's almost like if when I initially depress the pedal, the throttle body doesn't smoothly open at the start and kinda just jolts open after enough pressure is applied. This is also affecting driveability, as in any gear, between 1400 and 2000 rpm, if only partial throttle is engaged the car will buck like mad. Full throttle is no problem though.

    Any thoughts?

FPR or leaking injectors would be what I would look at.

Well, I know how to check the FPR.. how do I check for leaking injectors? Wouldn't replacing all the O-rings help rule that out?

I'll take a look at the FPR now 'fore I go to the car show.. the 1 series is beckoning.

Does your car have a O2 sensor? (not sure about non-US cars)

        If so, replace it.

You know, I'm pretty sure it should have one (even non-US ones have it I think)..

Plus, it's a US Spec car. It should have one.

Then again, when I was getting exhaust work done, I didn't notice any O2 sensor :(

Ok, haven't gotten to do much work on the car, but i'm taking tomorrow off sooo..

No fuel leak under the seat. No visible fuel leak in the engine compartment, but then again, i'm not sure if i'm looking in the right place. Strong smell of gasoline, especially when cornering..

            and finally..

my fuel economy goes down exponentially the longer i drive.. and i lose more power the longer i drive..

            any ideas?

Whats your fuel pressure, and how long does it hold with the engine off? Is the vacuum hose for the fuel pressure regulator intact? Check voltage out of the o2 sensor, should switch from around .1v to .9v.
              Cold start injector could leak.
You may need to adjust or replace the throttle cable, and clean the throttle body to solve the stickyness problem.

The injector leak that affects mixture is internal. Installing O-rings on the injectors won't have any effect on that. The top O-ring seals the injector to the fuel rail. The bottom O-ring seals the injector to the intake manifold.
The injectors normally stick open if they stick. You can tap on the side of the injector to unstick it. If the engine smooths out when tapping on an injector, then that one is probably sticking.

If the country u live in when the E30 came out ran on Leaded gas, then it wouldn't have an O2 sensor. Like in South Africa

That's a good point, but I think this car was actually brought from the US.. I need to check :(

how did you check the FPR..... if you have a vacuum pump hook it up to the line off the FPR and if you have fuel coming up that line there is your problem
