I seem to be getting some minor backfiring whenever I engine brake in 1st or 2nd in my eta.
There is a popping sound, but never any loud bangs. The car has done this for as long as I have owned it, no matter what I have done to it. Things I have done:
clean afm contacts, check flap movement (fine)
remove ICV/cold-start injector (no change - now deleted permanently)
remove O2 sensor (no change)
Seafoam (on friday - it was a mess. I pissed off a thousand people. No change.)
clean/adjust/lube throttle cable (I know, this has nothing to do with it)
delete cruise control (same here)
change plugs (they were light tan and in fine shape. The new ones are gapped perfectly.)
valve adjust (again, no change, but the engine is a touch quieter.)
JC chip (no change either way, but lots more power!)
When I removed the ICV and injector, they were both crusted with wet carbon deposits inside. I cleaned them out, and a month later the deposits are back.
It sounds like the car is running rich, right? But there is no smoke from the exhaust, ever. It doesnt't even smell. Is it even something I should worry about?
