New daily driver.. Cutting out under load

Just started driving the family auto-x car regularly.. It's had maybe ~4k miles total in the past 7 years. Last year we thought it was having fuel pump issues because it was shutting off randomly and sporadically not starting, found a leaking fuel line in the engine bay that seemed to fix it at the time. Well, the car is now my DD and while driving it hard the other night it lost power under load at ~5500 RPMs. The car didn't turn off, but it wouldn't respond to any throttle input at all. Coasted to the side of the road and right before I stopped it re-gained power and all was well. It has done it 2 or 3 times since then, but not nearly as bad, maybe only for half a second compared to the 5-10 seconds when it first occurred. It still has a sporadic no start, not affected by whether or not it's hot or cold, just completely random. When it cuts out no lights come on and I don't lose any electrical power. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Did you see the tach take nose dive when this happened? If so the problem is electrical and could be power to the coil, a bad CPS, wiring fault, bad imobilizer fuse, or even a bad DME. If the tach didn't drop, the fuel system is a likely candidate.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Check the wire from the throttle position sensor to the connector plug under the diagnostic port. I recently had the same symptoms and found the wire had been rubbing the water pump pulley and randomly causing starting and running problems. I replaced the sensor and wire and the problem is gone.
