Can you make the Air-Con more efficient ?

My air-con needs regassing but i don't know whether to waste the cash cause i hardly use aircon anyway cause of the power it drains from the engine.

Is there anyway to make the air-con more self sufficient and not drain so much power from the engine ?

Jesus normally I would agree with you guys.. but when it rains or when it's way tooo sunny here I would really like having AC.. :(
