    M Roadster Lever

I was reading in FAQs about the levers and i just bought an M roadster lever for 20 shipped and am curious to what all i have to do now to install it after i buy the clips and so forth.

in the FAQ section Dan said to take it to a shop to ahve it installed??

Why is that and are you just talking about the selector rod?

If just needing to be bent so it doesnt rub against the harmonic or whatnot couldnt i just bend it using 3 sockets and a vise grip until it has a kink.

install: almost 100% self explanatory once you start. X clip replaces X clip, its really easy.

Dan's dumb, dont listen to him. Anyone that pays for something this simple should be shot in the ass.

KC and all of you with older E30's that have the sheet-metal console,

If you're planning on installing an M Roadster shifter lever in your E30 for that ultimate short-shift, either cancel your order and buy an E36 M3 lever, or send the lever to Ben and have him send you an E36 M3 lever. The Roadster lever is too short and will cause the shift rod under the car to rub against the metal housing around your guibo, if it even fits. The E36 M3 lever is about as short as you can get, and may require some modification to clear this housing, such as bending the shift rod a little.

Ben and I (by far mostly Ben) installed an E36 M3 lever in my 1986 325es with the sheet-metal console yesterday, using the original cup and spring assembly, which also have to be modified a bit, destroying the old lever in the process (email me for more info about this). It rubs the aforementioned housing in second gear, so we bent the rod a little and it quieted the noise for the most part, even though the rod needs a little more bending because it still makes a bit of noise. But hot-damn, is it short! We're going to modify the console mountings to get rid of all the slop, but the lever alone will take out almost all of it.

So the bottom line is that the even-shorter Roadster lever definitely won't fit. Get the M3 lever.
                      Found that through google.

Well i have another idea if this will pose an ultimate problem. Can i steal some parts off another 325e that has the newer tranny? like a 4/86 or 5/86?

You can make it work just fine, I buaght the m-coupe lever for my m30 and it has the sheet metal consule. But two of the lower bushing, one upper bushing(needs ground down a tad to slide over the lever) and the retaining clip. There is a parts list in the FAQ section.

so what i will need to do is ground down the upper bushing and retaining clip?
