    Fuel Gauge Dancing

I just bought my 2nd E30, a 91 318is in April and it does something my 90 325ix did all the time.

The fuel gauge moves about all the time. If you tap on it the needle will go to where it should be.

Is this a common problem for E30's?

The next question is obvious, is there an easy fix?

I'm sure its a loose or corroded problem, or sending unit..... but I'm no expert.....

My temp gauge does the same thing. I'd like to know a cure for this as well....

Sometimes the brass screw on the back of the cluster that holds the fuel gauge and temp gauge gets loose or falls off, then you have a poor ground connection. That is what I would check first. There is also a grounding point for the cluster under the steering column that could be in need of a cleaning and tightening too.
