Fan Shroud

I just re-installed my fan shroud...some people tell me that the fan shroud is useless and make the engine run hot and I've been told the fan shroud contributes to cooling.

I was driving around for about a year without my fan shroud as I didn't re-install it when I did my timing belt I just kept it in my basement

I've never had a running hot issue with it off ::knock on wood:: and I jsut got back from hard driving with it installed and the needle was consistently just below the halfway mark actually a little more so than when the fan was off...

So can someone please tell me what the necessity of the fan shroud is?

Basically I re-installed it because I saw no need to have it off and it was there when the car was new. I am a firm believer in the engineers who designed this with a fan shroud...Especially who designed the e30

I can not imagine that running WITH a fan shroud would make a car run hotter
