    Hey You know what ?
I just checked my owners manual for my e46 2001 325ci and the stock c/r is 10.5

Hmmmm why can we run 10.5 on our e30's ?

dont listen to me , but My Chevy Camaro is Running 10.5:1 on 91 octane at 36 degrees total advance .

I dont know what it would be for the e30
But on my E30 im going with ROSS pistons 10.0:1
I have built a 2.8 M20 stroker using 10:1 JE pistons. It detonated with the stock chip. With a JC chip it had heavy detonation. Went to a custom UNICHIP / MAF conversion and it was fucking FAST and no problems. :)

Because they will have knock sensors.
When detonation is sensed the ecu retards the timing to suit.

You need to be able to control the ignition timing to truely remove knock/detonation, sometime you can run more fuel to eliminate knock but you end up running too rich thus loosing power.

The M20 engine is especially prone to pinging because of its combustion chamber shape. Retarding the timing will fix it, but thats not what the actual problem is with that motor.

Hey Trent , thats exactly the compression i want 10:1 , but i would like to know where did you get your Unichip ? and your MAF ?
