if youve read my other post about finding something interesting on ebay i already have most of the mods that are available for the engine, except for the multithrottle intake. I havent gotten it dynoed yet but im thinking with all the mods maybe 165-170 maybe this is just a guess, i could be wrong. I have most of those mode because my brother originally had it and already started toying with the engine before i got it, most of the parts where sitting in boxes in my garage(cams, throttle body, headers) The rest i bought which wasnt that much money.

Does that mean you have the MAF? I think this was discussed before, and the highest this motor will see NA is 170. Thats with more than the value of the car into the engine.

Well i got the car for free and i sold my integra for $6,500, minus the ICE and two sets of rims. I was thinking of selling my 18x7.5in racing hart T6s for $350-400, and my extra alpine deck, i would have at least 7grand. But since everyone says to swap a motor, ill look into it but if i do swap the one i have now i can sell to my friend to put in his 90' 318i

your friend already has that motor, unless his is broken.

I think ive asked this question to death. The M42 is supposed to be the factory hotrod motor, wheres the hotrod part?

dont know who told you it was a factory hotrod motor. it is however a low volume motor that there's not much aftermarket for because its relatively uncommon and not especially powerful.

if you have all the bolts ons like you say, and you're still not happy, your next step is internals. custom pistons, schrick cams, balanced everything, PnP, tunable engine management, etc. and you'll still get walked by a mildly modded m50

Someone should have told you initally, the M42 really isn't worth spending the money on to mod. The most I'd ever do to mine is chip it (which I've done) and get a lighter flywheel.

i meant the car as a whole, you know for its application. I just thought the m42 motor was something to give a damn about. I guess it isnt as good as the other motors bmw has made for this car, or for the e36 cars.

if you like the m42(like me) and want to spend bank on it(like me), just do stuff and dont tell anyone(like me) cos all you will get is hate. ;)

keep in mind though, m42 power isnt to be sneezed at. i can leave behind a lot of 'better' cars through the twisties. pep it up, run it light and learn to drive.

as for your question, no its not out of the question, but the cost might be.

                              I have to agree!

Who says you cant get Past 165bhp? BMW got it to 315bhp and 260NM so it has loads of potential infact BMW stoped ussing the S14 becuase they could not get much more power from it, so they Developed the S42 which is a M42. anyway i can wipe the floor with a stock 325i and ive not got cams or any internal work.

Anyway i like the 4bangers they are fun and handle much better than a 325i will ever do, but then you live in the United states of America where you Drive SUV's
