    Clutch flywheel combo help!!!

    curious about single mass flywheel working with my eta. i have an 87 325e (eta) im doing an auto to 5 speed swap and i keep getting stuck between i need a dual mass flywheel and that a single mass will work too.. would you happen to know the difference (other than the single mass is lighter than the dual mass) will the single mass working since the Crank sensors are on the bell housing rather than in a late model where the crank sensor is signaled through the trigger wheel on the crank pully, im so stuck here and i need a hand. any info would be greatly appreciated. also, i bought a new clutch for an E which its pressure plate wont fit the single mass "i" flywheel. i used a 228MM pressure plate to check fitment and the 228 fits and bolts on the I flywheel no problem. the other stock replacement clutch kit i bought by LUK (the pressure plate) wont line up with the pins and or bolt holes on the single mass "I" flywheel. if i was to get an "I" clutch and run the single mass wheel would it work with my setup?

    i have a tranny out of an E which has the holes for the crank position sensors on the bellhousing..
    an "I" flywheel (i was told) which i also was told is a single mass flywheel..
    and all id need is either a new 228MM clutch kit, or

    can i run the clutch disc i got from the LUK kit with a 228m pressure plate? it might be confusing but any help would be so appreciated.

    The I flywheel won't have the index slugs for the engine management system on your car. You need the dual mass flywheel for an ETA.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      You need a single mass from an ETA. The early ETA's have a single mass flywheel with the reference things on the flywheel.

        the flywheel i have is an I flywheel, i called bav auto and was told it would work all id need is an 87 325i clutch and pressure plate. there is a reference pin/slug whatver u want to call it on the outer circumference of the flywheel along side the ring-gear. (inbetween the ring-gear- and the top face of the flywheel.

        (ring gear side-> <|{} | (the {} is the little ref pin/slug)

          To the best of my knowledge, no I engine flywheel has the index slugs. All I engine have always had the timing reference sensor on the front of the engine, thus no need for index slugs on the flywheel. You might have an early single mass ETA flywheel and thus would need a clutch for that.
