    M10 vs M20 Ignition Coil

Are the coils from the m10 and the m20 the same?

ken a coil is a coil, if anything the m20 has a higher output, it should work.

I just checked the Bentley manual and they give different resistance values for the 4-cyl vs 6-cyl coils.

Ken, I think the resistance values are only to tell if the coil is good or bad.

If you want, try the M20 coil, and let us know if it gave you any better performance.

All I can tell you is that my coil was bad this weekend. Got a new one and it started right up.

Ken, If you need a coil i think i have 2 or 3 from 84 and 85 318i's they mean nothing to me because i use an msd blaster ss coil now and don't need them. If you need a coil i will send you one free of charge.

              mcgrath,

Is this a direct replacement coil, or did you have to change wiring around to run it?

              I'm interested in doing this.

no wire hacking required to use the msd blaster ss coil, but i changed my cap and rotor to the one used on a 75 2002 so it doesnt use the resitor type plug wires. then i bought a box of accel high performance wires that you will have to cut to your disired lenght. its very easy and makes a very noticeable difference.

                        O/T but hey?

How does the car run with a bad coil?
                        Does it start?
                        Run crapy?
                        Cheers

                        :?:

If the coil is completely dead, the car won't start.
