Replaced ODO gears, ODO still doesnt work

I replaced the ODO gears and the trip/ODO still doesn't work. Anyone have any ideas? Everything turned fine before I installed it into the car.

Tried spinning the gears by hand, they spin ok?

Check the sensor/connection at the diff and back of the cluster?

The speedo works as well as everything else. Just not the odo/trip. I spun the gears fine by hand for 3 miles, it's gotta be something else.

did you replace the tiny gear on the metal acuator rod? those can split and not hold on the axle while it turns.
they retain their teeth tricking you to think that one isnt broken.
just a suggestion because odo not working and everything else working points directly at the cogs being the problem.

Yea, I replaced that one as well. Don't know what else it would be.

Seems likes its all mechanical right? Unless it somehow doesn't know when the car is actually getting forward speed. Is there a circuit that could go bad?

Main board is what's feeding it...you checked for cold solder joints on the main board where the two main plugs connect?

I have another cluster, I will compare the main boards and swap if necessary.

retrace all the solder points. do this while using a volt meter to verifiy continuity though out the path. i ran into this problem when i swapped the odometer gears.....long story - here goes.....swapped the e1 gear (12 tooth one), this worked for about 200 miles, then it stopped working, i purchased the other 3 remaining hears, prior to putting them in i noticed that the metal spindle part (the electric motor), intermittently seized, i did a similar thing where i rolled the clock for a few miles, would take 5-10 miles before id hit resistance. the major pain in the ass was the removing the cluster off/on only to move a few miles and then the odometer would seize again. ultimately i bought an odo cluster from here, the board on that one had fried, but the gear set was moving smoothly, swapped the circuit board (theres 6 points of articulation if i recall - 4 for power, and then 2 for some other thing). 2000 miles now and still rolling smoothly.
