Sticky Throttle, bad response time...

Another of the great number of ailments my car has right now is the throttle response.. When I step on the gas there's a very noticeable lag before it responds.. and when it does respond it feels like it's surging...

something i've noticed is that when i step on the pedal, i have to press a certain amount before the engine reacts, but when it reacts it does so a lot more than it should for such little throttle input.

However, I checked the throttle cable and it's taut and tuned, so I know it's not that. Anyone have any suggestions?

yea, get used to it.
its called the AFM.

It sucks, so its either deal with it, or spend ~700 and get an MAF

Don't think it's that...
this lag is not normal. I've driven M20 powered cars that do not have lag like this.

I don't know if I'm explaining it right, it's like, should I step on the pedal, there's actually a delay for the engine to actually respond. What you're talking about would be a delay in power to be made.

it's like this.
say the throttle body's range of movement is seperated into 10 parts.
When i step on the throttle, lightly increasing pressure, it feels like it doesn't open up until like 30%.

So instead of the normal: 1...2...3....4....5.. etc
it goes like 1..............5...6....7...8...9..

it's the same way on deacceleration. There's a point when i'm letting off the gas where the car just simply disengages; and my foot is still pushing down significantly.

Try putting lube on the cable and pump the throttle a bunch to get the oil worked into the throttle cable, might help to loosen it up and make it work better. The other option would be buying a new cable, also check to make sure the throttle body works smoothly as it may be the part that is sticking.

Clean the inside of your throttle body out.
