    fuel filter...

Hey guys I just recently picked up an 86 325es and she is pissed. The story behind it is that it sat in a field for 3 years and then got dropped off at my cousins house where he put a grand into it and got it running, kind of, after 2 years of work. So I figured it would be a fun project. He said it would probably need a new fuel filter whenever the old gas cycled through. I am hoping that when I put the filter in it will run 100% better. Right now when driving it bogs like crazy and feels like it should be giving twice the power that it is. Am I doing the right thing? If so, does anyone know an easy way to get to the fuel filter and replace it? Or should I be doing something completely different? Please help. I'm new to BMWs and I feel like a helpless lost puppy. Someone think of the puuppies on this one and help me out...please.

    Thanks,

    -Tony

The fuel filter can make a big difference. I have a late-model (1988+) E30, so my filter is under the driver's side rocker near the rear wheel well, so it's easy to replace. I think yours is in the engine bay by the driver's side.

Also, check the brake master cylinder for any rust, etc. since it's been sitting outside for so long. That can cause it to become FUBAR'd, leaving you without brakes. You can get one for $30 shipped from someone on this board.

yea the fuel filter is in the same spot as yours (so says the bentley manual) so it should still be easy to replace. I'm just hoping it fixes the problem. I hate driving a bmw thats pissed and won't let you unleash the power its suppose to :(

Me too.... Been there. Also check the TPS (under the throttle body) for any corrosion and the cap-and-rotor for pitting. Those can both take the guts out of the car.

Your fuel filter should be basically right underneath the drivers side door. Right there under the rocker panel, you'll see it tucked in there. It's easy to get to.

thats what i thought too. its pretty much in the middle of the engine bay. was quite the pain in the ass to get to and clamp a hose on lol. either way it didnt fix my problem because life hates me i guess. im thinking that its gunked up injectors. i threw some fuel injector cleaner in today and i'll see how it goes after it cycles through and helps any.
