    e30 engine fan problems

    car - 87 auto 325 eta
so ive noticed my fan has been rubbing the bottom of the shroud and slowing to a stop,
everything appears to be lined up right
and my temporary solution was to get underneath it and in the tabs that holds it to the radiator was to screw in some screws beside the tab thus pulling the shroud farther to one side (not into the radiator or anything, just short screws beside the tab to pull it more to one side)
which after doing it spins fine.

im guessing, a) my shroud is possibly warped?
or b) my fan is somehow off center but i dont think so
unless maybe my motor mounts are bad and the engine is leaning slightly to one side?

or is there soemthing im missing?

also, ive heard of people with e36's doing engine fan deletes with lower temp thermostats?
will that work for e30s? or does it not cool as well?
i was also thinking about just buying an electric fan? but how would i connect that one?
    thanks
    joe

Does the car shake alot with the engine running? Have the hood open, put the car in drive (holding the brake) and check how much the engine moves insde the bay. More than an inch an you need mounts. It may also be possible that the rad is mounted incorrectly. Check to make sure the bottom is sitting inside the rubber bushings and top is lined up properly.

Check the simple shit first, no point in replacing engine mount if the problem is a misfitted rad. It's a tedious job, and a backyard mechanic would take a lot of cursing and beer to replace 'em.

      Keep it slideways!!

i have a similar problem. car vibrates WAY too much at idle, but i can't rock the engine that much on the mounts. my fan actually flew apart and chopped the shit out of my front upper hose and apparently knocked a hole in the lower part of the radiator. after i replaced the fan, fan clutch, radiator, and hose, i STILL have that rubbing issue from time to time. i cant even put my shroud back on without rubbing.

mounts are on the list of things to do.

Sounds like they should be at the top of that list...
