    no spark

looking at a used 325is. It won't start. cranks, delivers fuel and air but no spark. I might be able to get a deal, but need to determine likely causes for no spark, especially expensive ones.

could just be a bad wire to the distributor cap, or maybe a bad ecu. those are easy fixes, as would be a coil. anything else it might be? bad wiring harness maybe?

any ideas are welcome. could still be good deal as a parts car, but i,d rather pick it up for a winter daily.

Make sure the cam is spinning. When I got my car from family friends, they said it was just a bad coil or some electrical gremlin. Turns out the timing belt was torn in three places. How do you check? First off, does it sound like it's making compression? If not, open the oil fill, and look to see if the cam is spinning when a friend cranks it over.

    Keep it slideways!!

I'll add that to my list. THanks.
