    Stupid squeaking belt

Ok, i think its my alternator belt that squeaks, but it only squeaks when my headlights are on... its bullshit, cause the belt feels tight, but not too tight, and doesnt look like its worn or anything. I put some belt dressing on it but that lasted for 5 minutes. its back to sqeaky city.

What causes squeaky belts? Whats a good remedy?

    TIA

Squeeking is usually caused by the belt slipping. You say it doesn't look worn, but compared to what. I would just go buy a new belt and try that. Sometimes after slipping for a while, the belt will glaze over and won't grip the pully correctly causing it to slip and squeek.

any short term correction, besides changing the belt? Im limited on garage space/garage time, and its cold outside...

sand pullies a lilI think. CAREFULLY sand them while spinning might help to clean the pully surface.
