First, to clear up some confusion how do I know if I have one pump or two? I have a 88(build 10/87) and I BELIEVE that from 9/87 up they switched to the big single electric pump under the rear seat. and pre 9/87 they used a smaller one under the rear seat and then a secondary pump. In any case, I do have this pump here:

Now I have two of what I thought were WORKING pumps ie. car started, I removed it to look in the tank, re-installed and car stopped starting. Then I swapped in a fuel pump that I knew worked when I pulled it from my vert a few months ago. I know these things are at least a little faulty but is there anyway I can test the pumps without using the e30? Is it a bad idea to jump them without being in the tank?
