    98 318 motor m42 or m42 Q's on swap

I found a 95 and 98 318 e36 motors for sale and they both need a headgasket done but i was wondering if these motors would just swap directly over to my e30 with an m42. I know that the intake manifold from the e36 wont and i have to use the one from my e30 but is there anything else that i need? would my tranny bolt up to the e36 motor, would my jim conforti chip still work with the motor?m let me know i found these motors for a steal and i want to pick them up this week

i'm sure it could be done... either one. i imagine the m42 would be easier. one thing of note is that the m42 in the e36 has a serpentine belt (i think i remember reading that).

the m44 should be obd2 though, right? that would complicate things.

just swap the crank from the M44 into your M42 and be done with it. No wiring needed and some minor work and you have yourself a 2.0 dohc 4cyl.

well the m42 in my e30 is toast and i just wanna get it running again so thats why i want to just get another m42 and pop it in. I wanna see what i can swap over to make it work properly in my car.

how does swapping the crank make it a 2.0?

i thought m42 crank is stronger anyway.
