    Stiff shifting with M42

My dad just got his 91 318is home, he loves the car, but there's a problem with the shifter/tranny. He has 150K miles.

The fore and aft movement of the shift lever is extremely stiff, feels like there's mud in the tranny instead of gears. side to side movement isnt nearly as bad or stiff. My 70k 318is feels worlds better shift wise.

Anyone have any ideas? I hope its a problem in the shift mechanism and not in the tranny

It might be in need of tranny mounts. Just an idea

I hope that you've replaced the trans fluid before posting this ;)

Me too, but trans mounts are a possible problem I suppose.
