Going from sheet metal console to newer style Q

I currently have a sheet metal console in my e30, and I have to switch over to the later style for g260/6.

My question is regarding installing the rear support bracket #4

Direct swap or welding involved?

I remember when I rebuilt my old shifter I ordered the new parts, since the rear bracket has a threaded end makes me think it would be a direct swap?
