What should be known when considering a euro-spec'd engine??

I have been giving some thought to using a euro engine when it comes to the conversion in my e30......
Is everything the same as using a US engine???

Are euro motors set up different due to fuel being different??? Is the timing the same??

I just wanna make sure I am aware of everything I need to know when considering this option

A lot is different on most Euro engines, NO ac or power steering in most cases so the brackets are different, no o2 sensors, engine harness, computers and more are ussualy different.

Initlal costs of motor (lot more than US S50's), shipping usually comes from overseas ($$), much more expensive parts, solid lifters (valve adjustments), etc. For example, Euro ignition coils are about 4x the price of US S50 ignition coils. Brake booster clearence is an issue with the large plenum and 6-throttle setup, but aftermarket relocation kits can fix that ($$).

The Euro 3.2's are quite expensive, but would be great in an E30 M3 or 318/325. However, consider that a mildly setup US 3.0 will make similar power as the Euro 3.0, with changing out just a few parts (MAF, exhaust, chip, maybe cams, etc). ex. My 3liter makes about 5hp less than the Euro 3.0. similar torque. The US motors are a lot easier to work on, by being based on a standard 325/525 motor, not a Motorsport built track car wonder (cool as hell, but $$$)

for a daily driver, ill take the US motor

all euro m5x s5x come with powersteering, they all got o2 sensors and the euro m50
uses the same ecu as the US m50 and s50...i'm allso pritty sure that the harness is the same
ac is ofcourse optional because its not needed in all euro countries... :)

I'm sure he was talking about pre x5x and was discussing M30's and M20's. After 88 EU spec engine got green. Went to cats and O2 sensors.

Differances being compression ratios and cam and ignition timing maps. More choices in engines also.
