sorry no JLevie here but.... I had a bad fusible link in wire on DME power supply in the trunk. before cutting open or removing the link first measure voltage at post terminal in engine comp. on firewall where battery cable ends. bypass the link in trunk with a jumper wire around it. remove some insulation and use alligator clips. re check voltage at terminal.
or use meter with pointed probes and pierce the insulation before and after the link
We jumpered around link started car ran great. even took it for quick test drive. eliminated sporadic miss as you can imagine. I was able to find a used battery cable with the DME wire attached and just cut the link out (test first) and soldered it in place. use shrink tube. or inline fuse holder rated for 30A +. confirm the 30A is large enough.

Sounds good. I saw in few other threads that jlevie said it was indeed a 30A fuse. So I know it should be that size fuse. I am wondering how and which kind of fuse I should use. Should I use a car type fuse or a cylider type fuse like for in line AC electronic fuses? Im sure I can do this all myself I just dont know which type to use. I also need to know the gauge wire used.

When I do this I use an in-line ATC fuse carrier. That means that this fuse will be the same type as the rest of the uses used in the car. You can find one of these at most any auto parts house. Pick one that has 10ga pigtails and splice that in place of the fusible link.

If you suspect a problem with the fusible link the test is to disconnect the positive battery cable and where the small wire attaches to the junction block on the firewall. Then check the resistance of the cable. The resistance should not exceed a couple of tenths of an ohm. Since you'll almost certainly have to extend the meter leads to make this test, get the resistance of your extension and subtract that from the final reading.

While monitoring the resistance of wire, wiggle it where the fusible link is to check for an intermittent.

I just loked around the shop and the fuse holders I have are 12 gauge with an inline glass 30A fuse. Will this work?

Yes, it will, but that will be the only 3AG fuse in the car. The rest are ATC type.
