    Central locking or alarm failure?

The other morning I go to unlock my car with my alarm and find that only my driver door unlocks. The passenger side door and trunk stay locked. I fiddle with the system a minute trying to get the passenger door or trunk to unlock but have no luck.

I then go to the driver side door and try to double lock all the doors. Only the driver side door locks.

I say this is a central locking failue and not an alarm failure since the other doors are not responding to even the double lock turn.

Do you agree? My Bentley is 50 miles away right now. Can anyone tell me the fuse # for central locking? Where is the central locking unit located? How do I fix this problem? I assume maybe by replacing the central locking unit (provided this is not a fuse).

    -Eric

I was really hoping this was an alarm failue as I really want to justify dropping the $160-$250 on a paging remote alarm. Those are sick!

Sounds like a central locking problem to me.

CL fuse is 27 (30A), but the OBC, interior lights, and radio are on the same circuit so that's probably not it. Probably a control unit failure; the same thing happened to me and I changed the CLCU.

what alarm do you have? Just curious because a friends' car have a problem very similar to that, except the problem will fix itself after few weeks, very odd, he hasn't bothered to fix it. His alarm is a 'predator' one i believe.

          Thanks Fred.

How hard was it to change the unit and where is it located? How much did you pay for your new unit? Was it brand new or from a bone yard?

My alarm is a Preistage or something like that. I'll probably upgrade to a remoate paging alarm by Viper or Compustar here soon as $200 seems like a small price to pay for such a complex system.

It's under the Driver's side speaker, remove the speaker and kick panel, You'll see two screws, undo these. Then pull the Central locking unit and light delay relay out. Used ones can be found for $30-$40(I have a working used one for sale at $40 shipped)

What Ely said. I got mine for free from the boneyard, but I bought a bunch of stuff at the same time so they just threw it in there.

Wait, Prestige? Not predator, but prestige, that's what my friend has, and having the same problem. Only difference is that my friends' car did not come with a factory central locking system.
Well I'm not saying that it is a faulty alarm system, but don't count it out.

                  Prestige. Yup.

However, in your friend's case I believe that he had to install an alarm designed for cars with no factory central locking system. This means the central locking system is to blame, but his central locking system is a prestige while mine is factory.

Well I got the new CLU from Eli...plugged it in, and it works great. While I was in there I noticed a yellow/blue wires had gotten sliced so I reattached that. I tested and it worked! I was not sure if the snipped wire was the cause of the problem (meaning my origonal CLU was fine) but I didn't feel like doing any more tests.

I put everything back together (A real pain in the ass in my car because of some special modifications) and test again. Awesome.

I drive home and try to arm my car. FUCK! Not working again. I open the door and slam it...it works.

Every single time I try to arm my car after closing the door it does not work.

Everytime I try to arm my car after slamming the door it works.

Seems like too much of a coincidence to be a short. Your thoughts?
