    quick help plz!

    i have a 91 318is.
I just noticed that the radiator bleed screw is broken. Half of the screw is still stuck in the hole. It would probably be enough to keep it fro leaking, but the threads that hold the screw in place are cracked. this is causing horrible problems. I am getting anifreeze on my alernator and on the belt and now my car wont start because my battery is dead!
What should I do. I NEED to have this fixed ASAP because I start a new job tommorrow. Thanks.

I'd drimmel out a ghetto screw top and screw it off and grab a new bleed screw.

Can't tell you what to do with the alternator.

Where you driving the car with the bleed screw like that?
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

It should be plastic, so if no dremel, grab a knife and start etching out a deep groove and try to screw it out and replace with new one.

if metal, good luck w/o a dremel.

as for the alternator, you may have shorted it (hopefully not) probably gotta get a new one and check to make sure wiring/fuses/electricals involved arent damaged also.

and then get your battery recharged at a parts store for free.

I just got home from McDonalds and i smelled antifreeze so i checked it out.

I am not worried so much about the bleed screw itself, but I am worried about the threads that you screw it into (the threads that appear to be part of the radiator).
How can that be fixed? (it is plastic)

As for the alternator, I think it is fine. I think the antifreeze was causing the belt to slip. On my way home my lights got dim. Suddenly I heard the belt squeal and everything brightened up.

        anyways, thx for the suggestion!

you will have to re-tap the hole to the next bigger size w/ a tap & die set and get a new boltone size bigger.

go to an ACE hardware store with the bleeder bolt and tel them what happened and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

btw a tap & die set, lets you rethread any hole.

From what i can tell your talking about the bleeder on the radiator not the bleeder on the block so, why not just get it out and replace it if you mess the treads up then fill it with epoxy, next time you need to bleed it take the hose off and put a bucket under it.

Allso Quick help plz plus what was wrong would make a much better topic,,
