    Removing gas tank

Any tips on removing the gas tank? I've already searched the forum and looked in the Bentley, and haven't found anything useful.
(what's left of) the car will have too be tilted onto its side when I'm doing this. Where the body is now, I can't put it on jack stands.
Just wanted to know if there's any tricks involved or anything I should watch out for when doing this. Thanks ahead of time.

    Here's a few tips:
Drain the fuel out of the tank using the drain plug on the bottom of the tank, passenger side. You may have to tilt the tank 90 degrees to the passenger side to get the last of the gas out.
Remove the bottom cushion of the rear seat and remove the two plastic panels under it to detach the wires and hoses from the top of the tank.
Remove the exhaust system. Mine was rusted into one piece so I detached the manifold from the engine and droped it all at once.
Remove the driveshaft according to the Bently procedure.

That's all I can think of right now.

Thanks for the help. There is maybe 20% of the body/frame left intact... basically just the metal around the gas tank and about half of the rear suspension. I just wanted to know if there's any specific way to physically remove the gas tank easily. No exhaust or driveshaft is in the way.

If no exhaust or driveshaft is in the way, thats easy. I remember there only being about 8 bolts holding the gas tank to the car. The gas tank will easily slide and/or fall out then.

            New Fuel Drain Plug problem

Does anyone know where I can find a gas tank drain plug besides taking it off another BMW from the junk yard? I have searched online and found nothing. Do I need to replace the whole gad tank?

If you can get the plug off, just take it to a hardware store and match it up. You can also go onto realoem.com for the actual BMW piece.
