      REVIEW:

I just recieved the MarkD M42 91 Octane chip and a 93 Octane. The chip was a great upgrade, sorry for doubting you Rob.

      Product: MarkD M42 91 Octane.

      Vehicle: 1991 318is w/ 210k

      Review Description:
Install was easy, took 10 mins. I've driven more then a 100 miles now. From 1k-3k rpm, the acceleration got smoother, but i did not feel any huge improvement, but alot smoother. From 3.5k all the way to 7k  . That was literately my expression, my eyes widened up and i was thinking "damn this chip really works" I would probably like to guess my 0-60mph is at least .5 secs faster. Above 3.5k the motors really pulls harder. It keeps reving up to 7k without any lag. I think the greatest benefits with the chip is when i'm on the freeway. I use to have problem merging with the 70-80 mph traffic, but that is not an issue anymore, and passing slower drivers is a breeze. When I'm on the freeway I found that the car accelerates from 70 to 100 alot faster, (i didn't want to go above 100, b/c CHP) In the city i found myself shifting at lower RPMs, i didn't have to rev my motor as hard. Overall i am very satified with this chip. The chip really improves how well the car drives, much better throttle response when the car is moving. This chip is definately worth 219, intake header or exhaust probably wont' give you this type of improvements on our cars. I can't wait to try out the 93 octane, i'll have a review up for that chip in about 5-6 days.

I just finished a big project I was working on yesterday, so will take a few days to catch up on odd's and ends and then start the 153 chip. I have to test it up here before release, I'll probably ask Mystikal to do that as I have a 153 DME I can lend him. ( I got yourt email tody but was not able to respond yet)

              REVIEW:

              Product: MarkD M42 93 Octane.
              Vehicle: 1991 318is w/ 211k
              Gas: California 91 Octane.

              Review Description:

I finally got to testing the 93 octane chip on 91 octane pumped gas. I've driven over 300 miles with it so far and there is NO problems. There was no pinging or any other strange noise from the engine.

I just finished an autox with the chip today. All i could say is the extra revs were great for todays course, and the throttle response is awesome when you get on and off the gas, there use to be lag. I think the improved throttle response has to do with the extra power at the lower to mid rpm ranges.

This chip compared to the 91 octane is basically an even more enhanced version of the 93 octane, with power coming on earlier in the lower rpms. Like my last review for the 91 octane, i said from 2 to 4k rpm it felt smoother, with the 93 octane chip there is more of a feeling of torque from 2 to 3.5k rpm instead of smoothness and the pick up is even quicker from 3.5k to 7.2k rpm. I can't describe to you how much more power or anything, but i just know it feels awesome, and it definately put a smile on my face. :D And thanks again Mark for letting me try both the 91 and 93 octane. I was aready happy with the improvement on the 91 octane chip but the 93 octane really makes the car even more fun to drive now. This should be one upgrade that is on the top of the list.

Hmmm.. another way to compare it would be, the improvement i feel with the MarkD m42 chip is greater then the JC chip for my m20, this is in terms of improvement from stock.

Finally got Mark's chip back in after new timing chain...

...I promised Mark I'd give a review of the chip once I got it back in after rebuilding my timing chain components. Wow! Here's my chip history:
Bought the car in March '03, bone stock. Bought a ProFormance chip off another board in 2004. Ran that chip for a long time, and really enjoyed the extra punch it offered (although it seemed "peaky".)
Got Mark's chip in early 2005, and installed it back-to-back with the ProFormance. The EAT chip is SO much smoother, and consistent.

I loved it, but then I had timing chain tensioner problems. I took the front of the motor down for repairs (all new sprockets, tensioners, and timing chain), then had a time stopping oil leaks on the front covers. I swapped back to the stock chip to "break in" the new timing components.

Well, about a month ago, I finally got the EAT chip back in, and over the last 500 miles or so, the DME has adapted to the chip, and LOOK OUT!! This is how the M42 should have come from Germany! Smooth, power standing at the ready, and it seems to run quieter!?! I will be borrowing our G-analyst to get some runs in, and will do them EAT first, stock second.

I love this chip, and am glad I have to run premium already to help soften the cost of fuel! No excuses to not run it and enjoy the extra power/smoothness!

                Thanks Mark!

Any word on the 153 DME chip?

I haven't heard from MarkD for a while about the 153 DME chip. Anyone know if this is going to happen? I'm thinking about just getting a JimC chip.

                  Thanks

I can get that chip ready in about 2 weeks. At least I'll try to. I have many little projects that I'm cathing up on so it may be slightly longer.

Not to hijack too much, but did your oil leaks appear after you replaced the timing compnents? I have a mystery leak that appeared out of nowhere and I can't figure out where it's coming from.

There are 2 versions of it also, one for minimum 91 octane, the other for minimum 93 octane.

Just order it from me. It's on my website.

The 93 octane m20 chip works very well in Mystikal's car with the 19# injectors he has installed. His car was doing very well at the autocross yesterday.
