    protective boot

what do you call the tool to install the clamps that hold the boot in place? i know the clamps can only be bought from the dealer but what is the best way to install them if you don't have the correct tool?

borrowed a pic from robertk's rack swap thread.

    CV Boot Clamp Pliers

you could use zip ties since it is mostly for dust and dirt, not supposed to hold fluid. If you have any fluid in there then the seals are gone on the rack.

I used OE boots and clamps and was able to snap the clamps on by hand.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Same here. I just used the old boots and clamps. You can get the notches to lock again.

There are also zip ties that have a metal center to them. I forget where I purchased them and if anyone knows where to get more please post the answer. I think thats what I shall use when I replace the boots on my steering rack.

use Dykes front cutting pliers, they are perfect. next to the correct tool above though..

                    then come zip ties.
